Why we collect the information we do on our Mexico car insurance application.
One of the more common questions we get from customers about our online application and purchase is “why four pages?” Here we’ll explain why and how easy it is to purchase a policy.
After filling out Mexpro’s short one-page quote application, you will be taken to the quote results page where you will choose an insurance carrier & policy. After this you will fill out two short pages where you will give your personal information, and then your vehicle information. After that you review your choices, pay for your policy, and can print it and be on your way. All this can happen in 10 minutes or less. The questions and application requests are ONLY what is needed to satisfy our insurers and get you the right policy at the right price for your Mexico trip.
Before you start filling out the application, you’ll need these items: the actual cash value of your vehicle Kelly Blue Book Value, your current U.S. or Canadian insurance policy number and expiration date, the vehicle identification number (VIN) for the vehicle you’ll be driving to Mexico, and information on the finance company if you’re currently leasing or financing your car.
The Application, Simplified
You might note that Mexpro’s online application is shorter than an application for similar coverage in the U.S. or Canada. That’s because we’ve made sure to ask only for information that’s required by our Mexican insurance companies.
Get a Quote
The first page of the quote form asks for your travel dates. this determines your rate. It also asks for your vehicle make, model, year and actual cash value (ACV). The quote form has links to both Kelly Blue Book and NADA websites so you can easily determine your car’s value.
We also ask you if you plan to travel to Sonora & Baja only as this will give you a lower rate. If you have drivers that are younger than age 21 or older than 80, we need to know that too, as that would increase your rate.
Quote Results Page
Click Continue after finishing the quote page, and you’ll be taken to the quote results page, including three different insurers, choices between liability & full coverage policies, and quotes for daily, six month, or annual plans. Six month and annual plans have a high discount and are advantageous if you take several trips per year to Mexico, are a snowbird, or expat.
Select a policy by clicking the “Buy Now” button under the cost of the policy you wish to obtain, and you will be taken to the owner information page.
Owner Information
You will be asked for your name, address, phone, email, and the state or province where you hold a valid driver’s license. All information on this page is required except “other drivers”.
Note: Other drivers do not have to be listed in order to be covered. However, you should list drivers that are younger than age 21 or older than 80.
It’s important to know your policy will be void anytime someone with a Mexican driver’s license drives your vehicle. Consequently, if you fill in a Mexican state in the final answer box next to Driver License State/Province, you will get an error.
Vehicle Information
On this page of the application you will need to provide your VIN, license plate number, and insurance information. If you finance or lease your vehicle, you will need to provide the finance company’s name, your lease or loan number, and the finance company address.
Vehicle Permission Letter from Lease or Finance Company
You may need a letter from your finance company that states they permit the vehicle to go to Mexico. You will have to provide proof of the Mexico insurance coverage to get this letter.
Review Your Coverage & Information
Review your application. Make sure the information you’ve provided is accurate. If not, click the blue “Edit” button underneath the section needing changed (personal information, vehicle information, or quote information).
Note: After making an edit, you will be taken through the remainder of the quote form again, but the information fields will be filled out. You will just need to click the “Continue button” at the bottom of each page to get back to the review page.
If everything is correct, and you are satisfied with your coverage, click on “Agree and Pay” at the bottom of the page. A pop-up window will appear. Click the drop-down arrow in the top box to choose the policy owners name. Signal your agreement to pay by checking the “I Agree box”. Afterward, the payment options will open, and you can pay with any major credit card, or use PayPal. When you are finished adding your payment information, click on the “Pay & View Policy” button.
That completes your application process. From here, you can view your policy documents. Be sure to print two copies and keep one in your vehicle at all times while driving in Mexico.
You will be sent an email confirming your application and payment. It will also give you a username and password so you can retrieve the documents at any time. (Additionally, you can use the log in to get a policy in the future and have all your information pre-populated in the quote form. You will only need to choose the dates of travel and a policy, making it much faster and easier to purchase.)
If you purchase using your mobile phone, you should print your documents when you get to a hotel or other location where a printer is available. If you need to show proof of insurance before you are able to make a print out, download a copy of the policy on your phone, or take a screen shot and save on your mobile device.
Mexpro has simplified the Mexico car insurance online application to help you get the coverage you need quickly. The information we ask helps us find you the best coverage and price for your trip. In just a few minutes, you can apply and pay for a Mexico car insurance policy that ensures you’re covered for travels south of the border and can just focus on the fun.
