Before you go to Mexico be sure that you prepare for the various legalities of an international trip, and one of those legalities is Mexican car insurance. Whether you want to tour the various archeological sites and ruins or explore the pristine beaches, Mexico has something for everyone. It is a country that is stunning in its beauty, but its greatest attraction is its people, they are warm and friendly with a rich cultural heritage. A wonderful time can be had by the whole family during a vacation to Mexico.

Mexican car insurance can easily be purchased online from any number of different insurance companies. Now, before I go any further I want to make it crystal clear that you do, in fact, need to purchase an insurance policy from a Mexican insurance company. I know that some major carriers offer limited coverage within Mexico, this is usually limited to within twenty-five miles of the border. Some people assume that because their insurance policy will provide coverage in Mexico that they don't need to purchase additional insurance, but nothing could be further from the truth. In order for the government of Mexico to recognize the insurance as proof of financial responsibility it must be issued by a Mexican insurance company. Your United States policy is not considered valid by the Mexican government. It is important that your policy is recognized by the Mexican government because of the Mexican legal system.

There are some coverage differences between the Mexican and United States policies. Legal Aid and Travel Expense will be listed on the application as optional coverages. Please do not consider them to be optional, because they are essential. Without both of these coverages you will be responsible for all legal expenses until liability is determined. Remember that bit about being guilty until proven innocent, it applies here as well. Don't forget to check this particular box, because you want this coverage.

The other recommendation that I have is that you purchase a combined single limit of not less than one hundred thousand dollars. Because pain and suffering and emotional distress are not paid in Mexico. Bodily injury claims are usually less than those in the United States. A single limit policy allows a greater percentage of the claim to be applied to property damage as would normally be the case in a Mexican claim.

The other difference seen in Mexican car insurance is the exclusion for Vandalism and Partial Theft. This means that for theft coverage to apply, the entire car must be missing and not just parts of it, like the radio or tires. Vandalism is not covered, so that the broken windshield or the keyed car will be the owner's responsibility.

Mexico is one of the most spectacular places on earth. Please have an enjoyable vacation. One of the ways to ensure that your vacation goes as well as you would like it to purchase the right Mexican car insurance.
