sport fishingFishing teaches patience and – even in the midst of last-minute preparations – Carlos Menchaca patiently spent some time Wednesday afternoon answering questions about the major international fishing tournament he is in charge of coordinating in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on the Riviera Nayarit.

“We have 70 to 80 boats that are going to participate in the tournament,” Menchaca noted...

“Our tournament is not a profit tournament,“ he added. “We want to have the tournament be friendly. People are not here for the prizes. People are coming to our tournament because they want to have a good time. They want to enjoy themselves and make new friends.”

The prizes are nothing to scoff at, however. They include seven Nissan automobiles. The biggest prize – a 2013 Nissan Frontier LE pickup truck – goes to the vessel which has the biggest catch of sailfish. Nissan March automobiles (which are assembled in Mexico, but not sold in the United States) are first prizes in the marlin, mahi mahi, and tuna categories.
