Safety is focus of Mexico's New Tourism Policy
The focus of Mexico’s new tourism policy is Safety. Mexico’s newly elected president, Enrique Pena Nieto, stated while unveiling the new policy, “It is essential to offer tourists, both domestic and foreign, a safe environment, and we will continue to work on improving public safety.”
The president hopes to “modernize and revitalized existing destinations.” “We will open Mexico to the world, and the world will visit Mexico,” he said. “Tourism is a fundamental component of our economy and a key driver of national development.”
Tourism only accounts for 9% of Mexico’s gross domestic product, annually, but the president feels there is “enormous potential for growth.
Mexico’s large coastline, cultural, natural and historical attractions and warm climate and pricing mean it “has everything it needs to become a global tourism power,” the president said. “We want to be a world-class destination.”
