Aztec/Mayan CalendarDecember is upon us. As we plod toward that inevitable date, December 21, 2012, and the end of the Maya Long Count calendar, we find ourselves swimming in a sea of misinformation. What are we to believe will or won't happen on that fated day?

Here are the top 10 myths associated with December 21, 2012, a date barely known to us several years ago.

Myth #1: The Maya calendar predicts the world will end on December 21, 2012.
Although one in 10 people in the U.S. fears this, scholars, archeologists, and the Maya themselves say this is false. Maya elders remind us their calendars (they have 28) are about repetition and rebirth and endings and beginnings. They also remind us that December 21, 2012, is the end of their Long Count calendar, not the end of time.
