Mexico establishes protected nature area on Cozumel

Iguana in Cozumel's Chankanaab ParkMEXICO CITY — Mexico's environmental authorities say they have declared the northern shore of the Caribbean island of Cozumel a protected nature area, with strict limits on human activity there.

The Environment Department says about 146 square miles (378 square kilometers) of the island and coastal waters will be protected under the measure.
