yosoy132_DSC_0158MEXICO CITY—Election night 12 years ago was buzzing with the excitement as the PAN party (National Action Party) in Mexico beat the long-time PRI party (Institutional Revolutionary Party).

But in this past Sunday's election the PAN was thoroughly defeated with only 25% of the votes. Enrique Peña Nieto of the PRI won the election, while leftist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador came in second.

The PAN did poorly in congressional races, as well, taking 3rd place in number of congressional seats. It also lost governorship in Jalisco and Mexico City boroughs where it had long held positions.
